Manager arrested for failing to inform cops about foreigner's arrival in the wake of reports that David Headley had visited Gujarat, the state police has now begun checking hotels, tenants and the factory workers.
As a first the Surat police is checking the registers of hotels situated near the railway station just to know whether the hotel staff are performing norms like checking the identities of the guests before offering them rooms.
The hotel staff has also been directed to submit the details of the travellers to the concerned police stations.
Recently, the Mahidharpura police conducted a raid on Hotel Relax Inn near the Surat railway station, and found that a Malaysian citizen, identified as Amjadali Rehmatali, was staying in the hotel for the last two days.
Hotel Manager Govind Barot, a resident of Amroli, was arrested for violating the police commissioner's notification to furnish the details of any foreign traveller taking rooms in hotels, to the nearest police station.
Mahidharpura Inspector K M Desai said: "We don't want to take any risk. We have started checking the hotels following an order from the senior officers. During checks at Hotel Relax Inn we found that the hotel staff had collected the xerox copies of the Malaysian citizen's passport, but had failed to give the details to the police. We have arrested the hotel manager for the lapse."
As part of its security drive, the police have also started conducting checks on the unit owners and house owners who lend their houses on rent but have failed to furnish the details to the police.
All inspectors are carrying on work on getting the details of the factory labourers, housemaids, and tenants.
